Border Patrol union demands Holder?s resignation over Fast and Furious.

Can anyone point me to evidence that the ATF let the weapons cross the border on purpose? I'm asking because I've been trying to research this and the only information I find about this being a calculated act is from the NRA and quotes from their VP. I set out looking for proof that there was some kind of malicious intent and all I can find is a very poorly planned and managed sting, and a few seemingly unfounded allegations.

The biggest thing I have a hard time understanding is why people think the rational conclusion to this is that it must have been done on purpose to support numbers that the administration was using to justify a law that requires gun sellers in border states to report the sale of more than two of a few specific kinds of weapons. Even if they are heavily anti-gun it doesn't seem reasonable to think they would put so many lives in danger to pass such a small piece of legislation that imposes a minor regulation that doesn't impede anyone's ability to purchase and own firearms.

But yeah, I'm open to any sources of proof that would show me anything different than what I've found so far.
