NTSB Urges Better Technology to Avoid Truck Accidents | Personal ...

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) performs many functions that help reduce trucking accidents involving big trucks, 18-wheelers, and all kinds of commercial trucks. Among its many tasks, the NTSB helps create trucking safety standards and makes safety recommendations designed to reduce the number of trucking accidents, which frequently cause catastrophic injuries and death to motorists using other vehicles, like cars or motorcycles.

In November, the NTSB issued its ?2013 Most Wanted List.?? An annual NTSB tradition, the Most Wanted List is a New Year?s resolution list, of sorts, containing transportation safety issues that the NTSB believes should be addressed in the coming year.? In addition to urging an effort to reduce substance-impaired driving and distracted driving, this year?s list also urged installation of motor vehicle collision avoidance technology in big trucks.? NTSB believes that these technologies could prevent run-off-road, rear-end, and lane-change trucking accidents that account for a large percentage of fatal truck collisions.

Trucking accidents produce many wrongful death cases and personal injury lawsuits every year across the nation.? Big trucks are subject to much stricter regulation than other motor vehicles, and violations that result in injury or death to other motorists can leave a trucking company liable for damages like medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, future economic losses, loss of service to family members, and other items.
