The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office has identified a woman who allegedly defrauded a Chalmette business of $905 with a counterfeit postal money order. But, deputies continue to search for her and are asking the public's help in ascertaining her whereabouts.

The woman, who used the alias of Terry Harris, is Ashley O. Vegas, 29, of Lafourche Parish, the Sheriff's Office announced Thursday morning based on calls from people who had viewed earlier news reports. She formerly went by Terry Chaisson, which may have been her maiden name, according to Steve Cannizaro, the Sheriff's Office spokesman.

Vegas has prior convictions for issuing worthless checks, drugs and simple battery. Sheriff's deputies on Thursday will be seeking a warrant for her arrest on felony theft, Cannizaro said.

She was last seen in Chalmette on October 8 and was wearing a black, short wig. She is known to frequent New Orleans.

The Sheriff's Office states that a tip leading to an arrest and prosecution could be eligible for a reward. Anyone with information about the name or whereabouts of the woman should call Crimestoppers at 504.822.1111 or the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office at 504.271.2501.
