PATIALA: In a setback to three officials accused in the Rs 250-crore Patiala land scam case, a local court on Monday rejected their applications for anticipatory bails.

After registration of a case against 10 persons on November 9, Patiala vigilance bureau officers have been conducting raids to arrest all accused but with no success. ?Naib tehsildar G S Walia along with kanungo Priitpal Singh and patwari Suresh Kumar had submitted their applications for anticipatory bail, but additional sessions judge of Patiala rejected all applications,? said Patiala SSP (VB) Pritam Singh.

VB registered a case under sections 409, 420, 467, 468, 471,120-B of IPC and 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act against former Patiala DC Vikas Garg, then district revenue officer Rajbir Singh, then naib tehsildar G S Walia, kanungo Priitpal Singh, patwari Suresh Kumar and property sellers/purchasers Ravdeep Singh, N P Singh, Devinder Singh Sandhu, Jaswant Singh and Yashpal Aggarwal. The accused in October 2011 had illegally executed the sale deed of a government property which houses the offices of the civil surgeon, district town planner and district education officer and employment exchange, in favor of some private persons. The property is said to have a market value of Rs 250 crore.

Since all accused were well aware of legal action, they had left their houses many days before even registration of the FIR. ?All accused have been missing. Our teams are conducting raids and we would arrest them soon,? said the SSP.

The economic offence wing of the VB had submitted a report to Punjab chief secretary Rakesh Singh in September, recommended registration of a case against Garg and others. Before the VB report on the directions of Punjab revenue minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia, then Patiala divisional commissioner S R Ladhar and then financial commissioner (revenue) N S Kang had also confirmed in two separate inquiries that government land could not have been sold without the connivance of senior government officers.
